My e-book session expired and I was asked to create a loan. What does it mean? Have I been charged?

Some e-book vendors allow users to browse first to get a quick glimpse of an e-book.  After a few minutes, the book is “checked out” to a user. This “checked-out” e-book will not show up in your main library account, and you personally will not be charged any fees.
