Do you have a copy of the 1899 Census of Puerto Rico? Does it include name files?

Answer

The 1899 Census reports in the UTSA Libraries catalog do not have individually identifiable information or individual names.  We have a microfiche copy of the report, but the main report (413 pages) Infome Sobre Censo de Puerto Rico, 1899, is available free online from the Internet Archive (in Spanish) and Report on Census of Porto Rico (in English).

Reportedly, the individual name files from the 1899 census were either lost or destroyed and thus not available.  The 1899 census was taken by the War Department, not by the U.S. Census.  Puerto Rico was not included in the U.S. Decennial Census until 1910.
